The mural was produced as part of The Stoke Newington Heritage Mural Project. The poem was written by the children of William Patten Primary School, with the guidance and support of three London based poets. The children explored their local heritage, thinking in particular about the area’s fascinating social and literary histories, and its reputation for tolerance. The design of the mural, including the layout of the text and its colours, was inspired by the ‘ghostsigns' for which this area is renowned.

Funding for the project was received with thanks from William Patten PTFA, Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund.
